Unpacked Podcast Series Explores Michigan’s Intermediate School Districts

Most people know their local school district, but fewer realize that intermediate school districts—also known as regional education service agencies—play a key role in supporting students and schools across Michigan. From specialized education services to professional development, transportation, and funding, ISDs help local districts expand opportunities for students and families.

The Unpacked Podcast is launching a four-part series called "All About Intermediate School Districts," featuring Ingham ISD Superintendent Jason Mellema. Episodes explore important questions such as: What is an ISD? How are they governed? What role does funding play? How has their history shaped Michigan’s education system?

“ISDs often work behind the scenes, but their impact is felt in classrooms every day,” said Mellema. “This series helps shine a light on the partnerships that make Michigan’s education system stronger.”
