Ingham ISD Safety Terms
Ingham ISD has worked with our local law enforcement agencies (Ingham County Sheriff’s Department and Mason Police Department) to develop four safety terms that will be used in potential emergency situations. When we communicate with families, these are the terms we will be use and what each of them mean:
Educate in Place
Conditions inside the building are safer than outside. Education and movement can continue inside the building until the all-clear is given to be able to move outside. Heightened security.
Tornado Shelter in Place
A tornado warning has been issued. Staff and students should take shelter immediately in a designated shelter until given the all-clear.
Evacuation
Conditions outside are safer than inside the building. Staff and students should evacuate the building to their designated evacuation area.
Active Violent Incident
There is an active violent situation, apply ALICE protocols.
Safety Updates and Announcements
Final In-Person ALICE Training Scheduled for May 13

The final in-person ALICE Training session of the 2025–26 school year will take place on Wednesday, May 13, from 3–5pm at North Star School.
This session is open only to staff from Ingham ISD and Mason Public Schools. Any new staff members who have not yet completed an in-person ALICE training are strongly encouraged to attend.
ALICE Training is a proactive, trauma-informed approach to active shooter response. ALICE stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evacuate, and is designed to empower individuals to make informed decisions in emergency situations.
Measles Cases on the Rise
Measles case are experiencing a significant, record-setting resurgence in the U.S. in early 2026. Following a record setting 2,200+ cases in 2026, over 1,700+ cases have been confirmed in the U.S. already this year. Currently in Michigan, 8 cases have been confirmed in 2026: seven in Washtenaw County and one is Monroe County.
