Visually Impaired

Teacher Consultants for the Visually Impaired specialize in working with students who have low vision or complete blindness to access classroom and school resources. Services can be offered individually or in small groups and can be delivered directly or through consultation.







Students who are visually impaired (VI) may require support to access the general education curriculum.

Service delivery may include:

  • Adapt written materials into large print and/or Braille
  • Conduct assessments and provide analysis and interpretation
  • Develop and implement specially designed instruction in order to facilitate access to the school environment/curriculum
  • Develop strategies parents can use at home with their child
  • Instruction in development of self-advocacy
  • Facilitation and attendance at IEP meetings
  • Provides academic support as their vision loss can adversely affect their educational performance
  • Teach reading and writing of Braille
  • Training and support for staff and families regarding classroom accommodations, modifications and low vision adaptive equipment
