About
School Development Services Literacy Team provides professional development in the area of literacy for teachers, administrators and support staff from the early phases of literacy acquisition through adolescent literacy. Professional development opportunities range from one-day workshops on specific topics such as “masculine literacy” to semester and year-long courses dealing with literacy theory and practice.
Developing a strong, comprehensive, school-based literacy program is emphasized. PD opportunities include classes on the most effective ways to teach struggling readers and writers.
Ingham ISD is one of eight Regional Literacy Training Centers, training K through 3rd grade teachers and K-12 special education teachers in scientifically based reading research and best practices, data drive decision making and differentiated instruction so that all children will read at grade level by the end of third grade.
Ingham ISD is a registered Reading Recovery training and supervisory site affiliated with the Reading Recovery Center of Michigan at Oakland University. Reading Recovery is an early intervention program for Grade 1 students who are finding it most difficult to learn to read and write.
