Course Availability
The LAMP program is a career preparation program open to high school seniors interested in exploring the exciting world of manufacturing. Both AM and PM classes are held at the UAW-GM Lansing Training Center within General Motors Corporation facilities in downtown Lansing.
Course Highlights
The LAMP program offers students a unique opportunity to take an in-depth look at the world of manufacturing in an "up-close and personal" way. Throughout the year, students apply concepts learned in the classroom to real-world experiences within the automotive/manufacturing setting.
Six highly interactive, student-driven units of instruction that strengthen academic, manufacturing, and employability skills are taught throughout the year. Each unit also involves a of the General Motors plants that leads to a Capstone Experience. The Capstone is conducted during the month of May.

An interest in exploring a career in manufacturing
Motivation to be a self-directed learner with a strong "quality work, on time" work ethic
Strength in reading, writing, math, teamwork, and problem-solving skills

Career Development Components
The LAMP program provides exploration for students in the areas of self-awareness, career awareness, career decision-making and routes to future careers. Students exit with career plans and a portfolio documenting their success. Mentoring and job shadowing with UAW-GM personnel further enrich the students' experiences by providing them with adult guides to the world of manufacturing.
Curriculum & Capstone Experience
We begin with a five day orientation in the beginning of August to get to know ourselves a little better, get to know each other, learn to work as a team, and learn the processes of LAMP.
Authentic Application through Six Units of Study
- Quality Improvement introduces quality standards, quality tools, and a process for finding continuous improvement opportunities within a system.

- More Than Design provides a system view of the design process including changes in design techniques.

- Manufacturing Systems introduces various manufacturing methods and the system measurables of quality, safety, cost, responsiveness and people involvement.

- Business Principles addresses the financial aspects of the business and the interdependencies among decisions related to price, production, marketing, capital investment and research and development.

- People Systems teaches the history of the labor movement within the automotive industry as well as communication skills, workplace issues and career awareness.

- Shifting Gears focuses on the manufacturing system model and the interdependencies within it.

 |
- Capstone experience ivolves a genuine product or process problem within the manufacturing setting. Working in teams of 4-5, students organize and conduct a systematic plan to research the problem, analyze the data, and make recommendations for solution to UAW-GM, Ingham ISD, and community members.
