 About LAMP

Lansing Area Manufacturing Partnership (LAMP) is one of two pilot career preparatory programs developed in Michigan with the support of the United Auto Workers/General Motors Center for Human Resources.

United Auto Workers local unions involved in the LAMP program include Local 602, Local 652, Local 1618, and Local 1753.

Lansing area General Motors plants involved include Lansing Grand River, Lansing Delta Township, Service Parts Operations, and Lansing Regional Stamping.

Mission Statement

The UAW, GM, and the IISD, in partnership with the public education community, will develop and implement a unique career preparation program, which prepares high school students to enter the workforce of the 21st century. This will be accomplished by providing an integrated curriculum (classroom instruction combined with work-based learning experiences, that equips students with lifelong learning skills, employability skills and manufacturing proficiencies.

Outcomes
  • Provide a historical perspective of manufacturing as applied to the automotive industry.
  • Require students to demonstrate profiiencies based on manufacturing knowledge, academic concepts, and emploability skills.
  • Provide opportunities for career development within the field of manufacturing that lead to meaningful employment options.
  • Enhance public education and industry with partnerships with provide a unique model of integrated academic and workplace experiences that can be shared and applied through professional development opportunities.
