 Ingham School Officers Association

What is ISOA?

ISOA stands for the Ingham School Officers Association. It is one of many active school board associations in the state and is a chapter of the Michigan Association of School Boards.

Membership

The membership is made up of school board members from the following districts: Dansville, East Lansing, Haslett, Holt, Lansing, Leslie, Mason, Okemos, Stockbridge, Waverly, Webberville, and Williamston, along with Ingham Intermediate School District and Lansing Community College. The superintendents of each district are also members.

Purpose

The goal of ISOA is to provide constructive assistance to school board members. This includes promoting governmental action of benefit to our students and schools, increasing interest and knowledge of schools among the residents in our community, developing effective and informed school board members, and encouraging collaboration and sharing resources among member schools.

Board of Directors

ISOA has an executive board, which is comprised of one board representative from each of the local school districts, the intermediate school district, the community college, and a representative from the superintendents’ roundtable.

The executive board is responsible for planning the program for the association. ISOA is funded through a 3% refund of dues paid by the member boards to MASB. The activities of ISOA are facilitated by the staff of Ingham Intermediate School District.

Activities

In addition to the regular executive board meetings, where a host of topics are discussed, ISOA conducts an annual workshop for school board candidates. All candidates from the 11 boards that hold elections in May are invited. (Lansing holds its school board election in November.) The ISOA executive board hosts a legislative breakfast for members and area legislators and, during election years, facilitates the distribution of legislative candidate positions on issues of importance to the K-12 community. In addition, the board periodically holds forums of interest to the general membership.

Officers

The 2007-08 executive board officers of ISOA are:

  • President: Lorie Barbieri, Haslett Public Schools
  • Vice President: Tim Carroll, Leslie Public Schools
  • Secretary-Treasurer: Kevin Jacobs, Stockbridge Community Schools
