About

The Supported Independence Curriculum was developed for students who function in the moderate cognitive impaired range of ability. The content focus of the curriculum is to help students achieve the greatest amount of independence possible in their daily living, recognizing that support will likely be necessary throughout their life. The specific areas of focus include: Personal Care, Health and Fitness Activities, Domestic Activities in Personal Living Environment, Managing Personal Work Assignments, Transactions in the Community, Effective Participation in Group Situations, Effective Response to Unexpected Events and Potentially Harmful Situations, Managing Unstructured Time, and Appropriate Procession Toward the Fulfillment of Personal Desires. There is also a section with a Modified General Education Core Curriculum. As soon as the State of Michigan is finished with the Extended Grade Level Content Expectations (E-GLCE’s) and the Extended Michigan Curriculum Benchmarks for this population, the curriculum will be reviewed for content, revised as needed and cross-referenced with the State Standards.
