Ingham ISD has been awarded a grant from the Michigan STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Partnership to provide students in grades 5-8 an opportunity to experience and strengthen their understanding of STEM content in areas such as engineering, robotics, cybersecurity, mechatronics, rocketry, physical and biosciences. Based on the Next Generation Science Standards, the event(s) will incorporate hands-on, project-based learning for attendees. We also want to incorporate the importance of the arts in a well rounded education, so this event, STEAM Geekend Camp, allows us to include the arts as well.
Participating students will select six sessions to explore from a diverse menu as they spend the day experiencing Science Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) education at its finest. In addition, all students will participate in a STEAM career development/exploration activity with area business/industry partners from the Capital Manufacturing Council (CAMC) and Capital Area Career Center. The STEAM centered breakout learning sessions will be planned and provided by area industry professionals and educators from our partner organizations (Square One , Capital Area Science & Math Center, the Shop Rat Foundation, Information Technology Empowerment Center and CAMC).
Geekend Camp is free. Space is limited to students who attend an Ingham ISD area school and the sessions will be held on the Ingham ISD campus including the Capital Area Career Center and Heartwood School.
This camp is now full. Thank you!
