Substitute Teaching - Ingham ISD

Ingham Intermediate School District has entered into a consortium, the Capital Area Substitute System (CASS), to provide substitutes for employee absences. CASS uses an automated Substitute Employee Management System (SEMS) with data and voice capabilities. SEMS is accessed two different ways. It is accessed through the public telephone system and information is entered by using the keypad of a tone telephone. In addition, it can be accessed via the internet to change information, "shop" for jobs and review substitute history.

CASS contacts, schedules and pays substitute teachers for 15 schools and school districts, including:

Cole Academy
Dansville
DeWitt
East Lansing
Holt
Ingham Intermediate School District
Leslie
Mason
Mid-Michigan Leadership Academy
Okemos
Waverly
Webberville
White Pine Academy
Williamston

Haslett, Lansing, and Stockbridge school systems are not a member of CASS. If you wish to substitute in those schools, contact the school district directly for information on their needs.

To become a substitute teacher, you must have either a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate or the equivalent of 90 semester hours of satisfactory college credits (minimum 2.0 grade point average) consolidated at one four-year regionally accredited college or university accepted by the State of Michigan. Community college credits will only be accepted if they have been transferred to a four year accredited teacher college. We have a shortage of substitute paraprofessionals. If you would like to be a sub parapro, please contact the individual district or districts of interest. You do not need a degree or college credits to substitute as a paraprofessional. CASS currently places sub parapros in East Lansing, Holt, Ingham ISD and Waverly. The rate of pay varies by school district and is less than a substitute teacher.
