
The CACC Chapter of Business Professionals of America (BPA) had 23 students qualify to advance to State Competition at the Regional Competitions held at Baker College in January. Approximately 2,500students from across Michigan competed at the State level. CACC had 4 students place in the top 5, making them eligible to compete at the National BPA Conference in Dallas, Texas. One student went to the National Competition and placed 3rd in the nation for C++ Programming.
CACC had 16 Health Occupations students advance to the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) State level competition in April. With more than 1600 students competing, we had six students place in the Top 3, making them eligible to advance to National Competition in Nashville, Tennessee. Our students took 1st Place in the nation for Forensic Medicine Team, and placed 7th in the nation for Health Education Team.
CACC had 12 students place in the Top 4 in regional competition, advancing them to the State level where one student placed 1st in Plumbing and one student placed 2nd in Welding. The 1st place student qualified to advance to national competition in Kansas City, Missouri and placed in the Top 10 in the nation for Plumbing.
For the Michigan Industrial and Technology Education Society (MITES) competitions, student projects are judged at the regional level and state levels. CACC had one CAD student, one Welding student, two Auto Tech students, and three Precision Machining students take 1st Place in state level competition held in Battle Creek in May. CACC had 25 students place in the Top 10, including seven 1st Place winners, and six 2nd place winners.
At the Michigan Society of Histotechnology (MSH) Spring Scientific Seminar, three CACC students competed in the education poster contest, with one student taking 1st place. In addition, six students received awards for writing articles that were published in the Mikro Graf, the association’s journal.
On May 8th welding students from school districts across Michigan competed at Ferris State University. CACC had 5 students participate in this competition, with one student placing 1st in Arc Welding and one student placing 2nd in Mig Welding. Winning students received scholarships and welding equipment.
Three CACC Auto Tech students qualified to participate in the statewide Auto Value Top Gun Competition with 267 high school students from across Michigan. Onestudent placed 4th, winning a scholarship and a trophy. The other two CACC students placed in the Top 20.
