The TMC (Technology Media Center)

TMC studentsThe Technology Media Center is an integral part of the Capital Area Career Center (CACC). The Technology Media Center is the hub where students can use a variety of technologies to acquire, organize, share and present information to a range of audiences. The Technology Media Center is where the Career Center students build a foundation and expertise in using technology effectively for a variety of purposes related to occupational and employability skill development, their career pathway and specific applied academics.

The Technology Media Center provides a media-rich environment of print and electronic resources. Through project-based learning activities, students develop teamwork and leadership skills, job-seeking skills and discuss legal and ethical use of technology in all career fields.

Software available in the Technology Media Center includes: Internet Explorer, Macromedia Studio MX 2004, Microsoft Office 2003, Microsoft Publisher, Inspiration, Print Shop 20, Adobe Photoshop Elements 3, and KeyTrain. Web-based career and Educational Development Plan (EDP) resources are integrated into all content areas. Students will use applied math, reading and writing software as well as industry-specific software for their career path: arts and communication; business, management, marketing and technology; engineering/manufacturing and industrial technology; health sciences; and human services.

CACC students will use state-of-the-art wireless laptop computers, digital cameras, scanners, and other technology tools in order to create products that reflect the students’ knowledge and understanding. Students may create web pages, multimedia presentations as well as electronic and print publications such as newsletters, banners, flyers, resumes, portfolios, and other career-specific products.

Teachers may schedule specific days in the Technology Media Center to enable students to develop projects with their program classmates, teachers and Technology Media Center staff. Students are also welcome to work independently on projects with support from the Technology Media Center personnel.

Internet access is available in every classroom, with all users expected to follow the CACC and Ingham Intermediate School District Ethical Use Policy. Internet access combined with video conferencing technology creates opportunity for learning beyond the walls of the CACC, providing real-time connections with business, industry and the health sciences in Michigan and around the world.
