Career Technical Education opportunities have the broad focus of preparing students for employment as well as preparing them for the next educational level. All occupations require a specific set of math, science, language arts and computer skills, and, therefore, these subjects are integrated and applied in all occupational areas taught. While emphasis is on what the student needs to know to be successful in his or her career, teachers have correlated the curriculum objectives with the Michigan Curriculum Frameworks and evaluated the amount of time students spend on theory and skills in order to make recommendations about academic credit substitution.
Students have traditionally been awarded elective credit for attending Ingham ISD's Career Technical Education programs. Students or counselors may request the option of receiving academic credit for coursework, but must have the counselor's approval before initiation. Each request is evaluated on an individual basis and goals are set between the teacher and student. The student's progress is monitored and the student, parent and home school are informed of progress on a regular basis.
If you have questions regarding credit substitution, please call (517) 244-1360 or (517) 244-1315.
