 About the CACC

What is Career and Technical Education at the Capital Area Career Center?

Career & Technical Education programs at the Capital Area Career Center offer students "authentic instruction".

What does that mean? It means students acquire knowledge at CACC, both academic and technical, and then they connect to the world beyond the classroom through real world work-based learning experiences, using that knowledge.

  • CACC students learn on up-to-date tools, equipment and software as used by business and industry professionals.

  • CACC students work with real customers in their programs to produce a product or service.

  • CACC students work in local businesses, industries, schools, and medical facilities, in both paid and unpaid positions, to continuously increase their skills and knowledge.

  • CACC students are career and college ready because of their work-based learning experiences, a requirement for acceptance into many college programs.

  • CACC students can earn state or national certification in many fields, as listed below:
o MOS (Microsoft Office Specialist in Word, Excel, Access, and/or Powerpoint)
o A+ (Computer Repair Technician – National Certification)
o HT (Histologic Technician – National Certification)
o NIMS (National Institute for Metalworking Standards – National Certification)
o Phlebotomy or Opticianry (National Certifications)
o AWS (American Welding Society – National Certification)
         o Cosmetology License (State Certification)
o CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant (State Certification)
o Auto Mechanic and Collision Repair State Certifications

Our current and past students and parents agree, the CACC offers great opportunities for high school juniors and seniors who will live and work in a global economy!

Career and Technical Education programs are taught in 2.5 hour blocks and are a combination of applied academics, employability, technology and specific occupational skill training based on standards developed by the State of Michigan, manufacturing, automotive, business, information technology, medical and human service industries.  The Capital Area Career Center is a designated Career Pathway school and is accredited by the North Central Association.  Through classroom and work-based learning experiences, students gain the skills and knowledge necessary to qualify for and pass rigorous state and national certification and licensing exams.

Through the Ingham Intermediate School District (IISD), the Capital Area Career Center offers 30 career and technical education programs.  22 programs are on the IISD campus at the Capital Area Career Center, 3 are located off-campus at Dansville, Haslett and Webberville High Schools, 4 in partnership with Eaton ISD on LCC’s west campus, and one at UAW/GM Training Center in Lansing.
